Perry Lakes Park provides a parking area (accommodating about 15 cars) from which you can access both Round Lake and the Cahaba River via The Nature Conservancy’s Barton’s Beach Preserve.  Perry Lakes Park is open during daylight hours only and the gate closes at sundown.  Vehicular access to the Barton’s Beach Preserve is prohibited, so you will need to carry your boat 1/2 mile to the river  via the Perry Lake Trail and Barton’s Beach Trail.  Watch for Cahaba Blueway trail blade signs directing you to the lake and river accesses.

+River Segment - 2.7 miles

While the trek to get your boat in the water from Perry Lakes Park may be a long one, this section of the river is relatively short (yet very enjoyable) at 2.7 miles, and easily paddleable in half a day. Keep an eye out for the abundant wildlife - especially birds - in this area. The gravel bars and beaches are considered private property by most of the landowners, so stay on the water and do not trespass. The take-out at Sprott is an established boat ramp on the right bank just before the AL Hwy. 14 bridge with plenty of parking and turn-around space.
