This section is a relatively easy float, but there are numerous shallows that may be difficult to paddle in low water. Minimum recommended discharge at the USGS gauge near Helena, AL is 200 cfs in order to avoid dragging throug these shallows. A float down this section will take you through mostly quiet and remote areas, with few houses and some scenic rock formation and bluffs further downstream. At about mile 6, you will pass by high stone railroad bridge supports, which date from before the Civil War. The Shelby Co. 52 access is about 100 yards downstream from the Shelby Co. 52 bridge on the right bank.
